The “Hamsa” is a hand-shaped amulet that has been used for protection tracing back to ancient Mesopotamia.  

In Judaism, the notion of a ‘protective hand’ dates back to Biblical times, where it is referenced in Deuteronomy 5:15, stated in the Ten Commandments as the “strong hand” of God who led the Hebrews out of Egypt.  In this beautiful depiction, Mordechai inscribed the Priestly Blessing “Yevarechecha Adonai V’Yishmerecha” – meaning – may God bless you and protect you. At the bottom of the print – we see the word “Shalom” – peace, as the foundation of the Hamsa.
